ARLENE BAKER, ESQ.

Attorney | Entrepreneur | Advocate for Small Businesses | Licensed Minister


Arlene Baker is an attorney who practices law in Columbus, Georgia, specializing in civil litigation.  During her legal career, she has been a strong advocate for the legal rights of all people. She has worked in government, corporate America, and the private practice. She has practiced law in several states including Maryland, Indiana, and Pennsylvania.

Growing up in the segregated South, Ms. Baker saw the effects of the lack of adequate legal representation for certain communities.  This experience helped to shape her vision and purpose for her life and fueled her desire to become an advocate especially for those who had little or no voice in the legal system.

For her post-secondary education, Ms. Baker selected Howard University in Washington, D.C. After obtaining a Bachelor of Arts. Degree with an emphasis on Marketing and Economics, she enrolled in law school at Howard and received her Juris Doctorate Degree.

Ms. Baker began her legal career by accepting a Reginald Heber Smith Fellowship with the commitment to provide legal representation to indigent clients in legally underserved communities.  While serving in that capacity in Indiana and Pennsylvania, she worked diligently to educate the communities regarding their legal rights as well as represent individuals in various judicial forums.

Ms. Baker has always been a strong believer in entrepreneurship.  Consequently, she joined the legal staff at the Small Business Administration in Washington, D.C. where she provided legal services in an advisory capacity.   She worked to assist small businesses with the financial resources that needed to become strong viable business entities and to increase minority business participating in the business community.

 Subsequently, Ms. Baker served as corporate counsel for Commercial Credit Corporation in Baltimore, Maryland.  In that role, she continued to work tirelessly to help small businesses obtain the financial resources that would enable them to become sustainable business entities. For her efforts she was given several awards. 

Ms. Baker is currently in private practice where she provides legal services in family law, estate matters, corporate and business development, contracts, and personal injury.  In additional to being a litigator, Ms. Baker is a certified mediator who assist parties in resolving their disputes without going to court.

Ms. Baker is active in her church and community. She is a licensed minister, and she is frequently requested to speak at various events. She leads an on-line intercessory prayer group and spear heads a water project to provide clean water to a community in Africa.
